Horsehair worms may be found inside homes in toilets causing people to be concerned that it is a human parasite.Many exhibit a twisting motion, and they may loop. Adult worms are free-living in water, slender, and wiry they grow up to 50 cm in length and 0.10.15 cm in thickness. The adult worms emerge from the insects body when the insect goes to a water source. They are especially noticeable after a rainfall. The larvae are parasitic in insects, such as grasshoppers, beetles, and cockroaches.Horsehair worms are often seen in puddles and other pools of fresh water, swimming pools, water tanks and on plants.When the horsehair worm is mature and near water or damp soil, it emerges from its host. ![]()
